Books, paper photos and other printed material are 'unmediated', because you only need the object itself. The 'carrier' is helpful for identifying any equipment you need (e.g. if the 'carrier' is a floppy disk, you need a computer with a floppy disk drive). Books and other printed material are 'unmediated', so their 'carrier' is left as 'unset'."
